1940
The legendary Mr and Mrs Thuring established an airline and named it
Avia. During the war Avia was based at Fårösund and the main activity
for the airline was target practice.
1945
Avia begins to expand its activities and gains ground in agriculture,
taxi and post flights as well as pilot training.
1984
Gotlandsbolaget (The Gotland Steamship Company), buys Avia and continues
to operate the airline under the same name.
1986
Avia begins to operate on a regular basis including routes, for example
Visby to Kalmar and Norrköping.
The shipping
company Salenia which is owned by the Salén family took over AMA-flyg.
Later this year AMA-flyg changes its name to Salair.
1989
Salair moves to Linköping and purchases three SAAB-340 aircrafts. They
operate services between Linköping-Arlanda, Mora-Arlanda and
Gävle-Arlanda. Salair also begins to operate its first international
route between Linköping and Copenhagen.
1992
Competition for domestic travel is opened. Avia and Salair merged under
the name Avia.
1993
Salenia becomes the sole owner of the airline and changed the name to
Skyways.
2000
The Skyways group continues to grow and operates now 46 aircraft.
Skyways wins the prestigious reward Regional Airline of the Year
2000-2001.
2001
“September eleven” hits the industry hard and for Skyways small
adjustments in the route net was made.
2005
High fuel prices initiated a process to leave Saab 340 and Embraer 145
traffic to achieve the benefits of being a single type Airline with only
Fokker F50.
2009
The year 2009 is an eventful year. In the beginning of the year the
company was divided into two separate companies. Skyways Express AB
continued as the Airline company and Skyways AB as the Marketing and
Sales company.
On the 17th of November a Management Buy Out was performed by the CEO
Lars-Åke Bertilsson. The company name was changed to Avia Express Sweden
AB and the circle is closed! |
